OKURADO’s salon, Jewelry Concierge Okura, reopened on December 14.

The salon has a simple and relaxed atmosphere so that visitors can take their time to view OKURADO jewelry.　The salon offers a view of the jewelry workshop through a glass window, where visitors can watch skilled craftsmen creating jewelry.

One of the reasons I chose a salon with a view of the workshop is because of a childhood memory of mine.

When I was a child, we used to put up a nearly 10-meter tall carp streamer in our yard during Dragon Boat Festival.　Every year, a carpenter called “Take-san” would come to the house to erect the pillars for the carp streamers from the foundation up.　I loved to watch “Take-san” silently as he assembled the structure from early in the morning until late in the evening.　The carp streamer columns, which took a whole day to build, were unaffected by strong winds, and as I watched the carp streamers fluttering in the wind, I remembered the way “Take-san” was silently working on them.

My mother’s parents ran a kappo cuisine restaurant in Ginza.　When I was a child, my siblings and I were sometimes treated to meals in the kappo cuisine restaurant’s tatami room.　My grandfather prepared the food and my grandmother was in charge of serving the customers.　I watched over the counter as my grandfather, who was a taciturn man, took the time to make these dishes for us grandchildren, and when they were done, we would move to the seating area for customers and enjoy them with full bellies while remembering how our grandfather used to make them.

Back to the renewed salon.　Inside the OKURADO workshop, craftsmen are working day by day to create jewelry that will be ready in a few weeks or months.　Each piece of jewelry has its own story to tell, and the inside of the workshop, which can be seen through the salon, is filled with the stories of how each piece of jewelry is completed.　As we witness this every day, we wanted to show you not only the finished jewelry, but also how OKURADO ‘s craftsmen look and feel as they create it.　

I hope that you will wear the jewelry while remembering that the jewelry you have chosen was created by such craftsmen in such a workshop, just like the carp streamers of “Take-san” and my grandfather’s cooking that I remember from my childhood.
