The Process of Creating the Collection – Moon Light –

OKURADO’s jewelry collections include a number of different collections.

Some collections are very time-consuming and difficult to create, others are relatively smooth, and still others have gone from design to three-dimensional modeling, but never become a product.

There is a collection called “Moonlight.

This collection has been around since the OKURADO brand was first launched and is one of the most sold collections.

In this article, I would like to write about the process of creating ” Moonlight (Tsuki no Hikari)” as a product line, recalling those days.

The reason why I chose “Moonlight” is because I myself have a strong attachment to the “moon.

The sun shining brightly and brilliantly is fine, but I was strongly attracted to the quiet and powerful light and presence of the full moon seen on a cloudless night, and I felt the “moon” as a presence that watched over and protected me.

I have always felt the “moon” as a presence that watches over and protects me.

At the same time, apart from this desire for the moon, I was always thinking about a setting that would make the diamonds shine without making them feel metallic.

At the same time, I was also thinking about the possibility of creating jewelry with a sense of transparency by forming a three-dimensional shape using only melee diamonds (small diamonds).

This process of “quiet and strong light of the moon,” “setting with a minimum of precious metals,” “creating a shape with diamonds,” “trying to create a sphere with melee diamonds,” and “maybe something simple and shiny can be created,” connected my thoughts.

In my case, on a daily basis, I record a lot of things I like and interesting shapes, beautiful gems, interesting ways of clasping gems, things that are uniquely Japanese, beautiful or pleasant color combinations, interesting motifs, shapes with impact, etc., by taking notes or photos when they occur to me. I sometimes find that some of them are not so interesting.

Sometimes, some of these recorded items are connected in my mind and form the image base of my collection.

In the case of “Moonlight,” my thoughts about moonlight, (1) how to clasp diamonds to make them shine more, (2) how to make a sphere with only melee diamonds (minimal precious metals), and (3) how to make jewelry with a sense of transparency and brilliance.

And at this stage, I started drawing the design. (In most cases, drawing is the last thing I do.)

However, although I had drawn the design, when it came time to make it into a piece of jewelry, I had a few problems.

How many diamonds and in what dimensions would make the desired sphere?Where and how many claws should be placed to make the clasp less metallic and stronger….

These problems are always solved by OKIRADO’s craftsmen with their powerful skills.

After many prototypes, the first ring was completed soon after.

It was exactly what I had in mind, “the light of the moon shining quietly but transparently as if watching over us,” and the way the diamonds were clamped was beyond my imagination.

Since then, this diamond sphere, which has a simple shape but is very difficult to make, has grown into a collection with many variations of designs.

I am always impressed by the craftsmanship of OKURADO’s workshop, which always manages to transform my ambiguous images into real objects.

Someday, I would like to introduce the process of creating other collections.
