Why am I in the business of creating jewelry?
I am sorry to be a bit formal, but that is the theme of this talk.
OKURADO designs its own jewelry, purchases the stones used as materials, and manufactures them in its own workshop.
I myself love designing and searching for rare and beautiful stones, but most of all, I love “creating” and being a craftsman who “creates”.
I think one of the reasons why people are moved by works of art is that what artists and craftsmen “create” is not profit, artifice, or greed, but rather “something beyond” them.In this day and age, the act of “creation” by artists and craftsmen is one of the few worlds where “purity” truly remains.
Today, stressful, heartbreaking, and unreasonable things happen daily around us and in various parts of the world. They may be happening to protect ourselves from the fear, greed, and external pressures that we humans have.
To change the subject a bit, I believe that all things and people have two opposing sides.
Light and shadow.
Burning fire and cold water.
The clear and the murky.
The operative and the unoperative, and so on.
These two opposites are not good or bad, but essential to each other, and they balance and harmonize with each other.
The first part of the sentence, “Why I am in the business of creating jewelry” is because I want to “work to balance these two different things” in my own way.
I want those people who are going through the daily irrational things that cannot be easily solved, and who are trying to balance the two by “creating” pure jewelry by craftsmen.
We hope that people will forget about everyday life (not to escape from it, but rather to confront it) and be healed by OKURADO’s jewelry.
We hope that you will be able to relax and experience the pure beauty of the jewelry “created” by our craftsmen using beautiful gemstones, and feel that maybe you should relax a little, or maybe you are trying a little too hard, or maybe you are being a little greedy, or maybe you should just give in a little.
As I run a company that designs and creates jewelry, I am in a position where I have to secure a certain amount of profit in order to continue creating.
I am probably the one who reflects the most on the craftsmen who work hard every day in the workshop.
The “Palette” collection is inspired by the combination of two opposites.
